The Big Draw Berlin

This past Saturday night I was in a museum. Oh yes I was. I was even there in the evening and until 11:30 pm! It was the long night of the museums here in Berlin and my friend and I wanted to go and participate in some drawing workshops that were going on. I think my expectations were pretty high after reading all of the descriptions in the event’s schedule, so I was sadly a bit disappointed. I was really siked about the drawing with experimental materials, which turned out to be drawing with ink! I actually had so many of my own ideas for drawing workshops afterward that I probably should get involved for the next time!

Anyhow, I am posting some images from the street art battle that I watched for 1 hour! There were two teams (one from Berlin and one from Paris) and they were given a blank board and black markers and they just drew for us for an hour, while a DJ played some good electronic beats and a video was projected onto the artists drawing. The video was actually an animation of someone drawing with a big marker and then all kinds of color explosions were thrown into the mix. It was beautiful, mesmerizing, well done! The whole thing was so entertaining actually that my initial gripes of oh man, we have to sit here for an hour and me thinking of my early wake up call for the market the next day were quickly forgotten.

At the end of the hour there was applause to decide the winner and of course the Berliners won. I was personally for the Parisians, on the right, for one main reason. The Germans spelled lose wrong! Instead of writing Win or Lose, as they most certainly wanted to, they wrote loose! Totally embarrassing.

Oh and before we get to the photos, here is the postcard for the event, a connect the dot drawing, which I happily completed:)

    Dear Ann,

thanks for posting your rather critical comment on the big draw – which is very interensting for us, as I am one of the organisers. I am sorry to hear that you were dissapointed and would love to know more about your experience, because that’s the best way to learn for the next time! And when you are so full of ideas it probably would be a great idea to get involved. I would appreviate a reply from you! Hope to hear from you soon
