Bodies in Urban Spaces

Yesterday I went to see Bodies in Urban Spaces created by Willi Dorner. It was part of the Tanz im August festival in Berlin. Check out his website for more info. It was so fun! My sister saw this piece in Philadelphia and suggested I go. I tried to go with my boyfriend on Friday, but the skies were a threatening gray and it had already begun to rain a bit. There was also a totally HUGE crowd (200 + people) and we didn’t want to have to leave our bikes where the performance began only to have to walk all the back afterward. So I decided to go back on Saturday and give it a go. This time the weather was perfect, but there was still quite the crowd! I was pretty shocked. Anyhow, it was pretty well organized and there were guides and police men all over. Don’t quite know if the police really needed guns on their belts, but whatevs…

The performance went from Potsdamer Platz all the way to Hallesches Tor through many green and overgrown backyards and playgrounds. I just couldn’t help trying to capture all the poses. They were so creative! And in some instances I think they had even coordinated the dancers and the colors of their outfits for the poses! Here are the pictures I took.

The huge group that turned out at Potsdamer Platz, 18:30, Aug 22nd.

One of our guides.

Die Polizei!

The first pose.

The masses…

oh the masses… (too bad this isn’t clearer)

Some of the poses many walked right past! I almost missed these two.

This was sweet.

This could be a painting! I love the colors against the drab concrete.

Talk about extreme stretching!

Love this.

The dancers running past to get into the next pose.

Ouch!

Also a good one.

Even the neighbors got into it:)

Is that a sneaker in her face?

Hehe.

How in the world?!?!

The end.

Climbing down.

Applause! The crowd went crazy…they loved it! I think the dancers were shocked there were so many of us and that we were so enthusiastic! Germans love their culture!

Had to take some shots of the Berliners/tourists. Hehe pink tights! Nice turnout, dancer on the right:)

Some funky black sequin pants.

Loved these billowy pants.

and these…

Some more tights. Guess she wanted to dress for the occasion!

A dancer.
THE END
awesome shots, ann! love it when stuff goes international and we can both see the same stuff. there was a huge crowd in philly too with lots of running and stopping traffic.

it makes me happy to see us inhabiting architectural spots no one expects to find us. also spots described by us because we’re there.
